Global Public Affairs (Global) is looking for a Consultant to join our Ontario practice in either our Ottawa or Toronto office.
Global is seeking a public affairs professional to join our growing Transportation and Infrastructure team. This full-time position, based in Toronto, offers a positive work environment and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the country.
The ideal candidate will have a blend of expertise in government relations, communications, advocacy, research, and/or stakeholder engagement with at least 2-3 years of previous experience working in relevant roles in government, private sector or association settings. Direct experience working in the transportation and infrastructure sector is a strong asset for this role.
We’re looking for an ambitious, self-starting individual who enjoys working as part of a high-performing team. Our Transportation and Infrastructure team supports a roster of dynamic and well-known clients in the sector ranging from leading infrastructure companies to major projects, to advocacy groups and associations. Our work includes providing government relations and communications counsel at the leading edge of the most high-profile issues, projects, and policy developments in Canada. To this end, a keen interest in the sector, as well as politics, public policy, and current events is a must.
This position requires a strong and polished writer and researcher with high attention to detail. We are also looking for candidates that understand and appreciate economic and political dynamics, and current affairs landscapes, both in Ontario and across Canada, relevant to the transportation and infrastructure industry. We are looking for a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills – someone who can rapidly understand, synthesize, and communicate complex issues and their potential impacts to both business and Canadians at large.
Candidates must be well-organized, able to execute multiple projects efficiently under time pressures and be adept at building and maintaining positive relationships with both internal team members, partners and client networks. Previous infrastructure sector and/or agency experience is a strong asset for this role.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
This position will require a candidate to work closely with the Practice Group Leader and wider cross-country team to manage a wide variety of client mandates and deliverables, including:
- Leading research, stakeholder relations and advocacy activities, including drafting project plans, briefing notes, stakeholder maps and client outreach strategies
- Writing and communications, including researching and drafting reports, articles, or posts and amplifying content in creative ways
- Providing direct client account management, including leading client mandates, drafting client updates and products, and providing public affairs strategy and counsel
- Supports business development efforts in close collaboration with the Practice Group Leader, including preparing proposals and conducting proactive outreach
- Issue monitoring and reporting, including legislative and issue monitoring across multiple jurisdictions and relaying business-critical information to clients in a timely fashion
- Interacting with government and political officials, and key stakeholders to build relationships on behalf of clients and Global.
- A postsecondary degree in political science, public policy, communications, or public relations (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 2-3 years relevant work experience in politics, communications, government relations, stakeholder relations, advocacy, or public policy
- Demonstrated knowledge of government relations, policy development and politics at both provincial and federal levels
- Experience working in transportation or infrastructure sector is an asset
- Ability to work at both the high-level strategic level and the detailed, tactical level
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral including the ability to generate professional-grade presentation materials and briefings
- Experience with managing or updating websites and any experience around design
- Previous agency experience is an asset.
