Global Public Affairs is pleased to announce that Mike Aumond has joined our team as Senior Counsel.  Based in the Northwest Territories where he is a lifetime resident, Mike has operated at the most senior levels of government and business in the North over a career that has spanned the last three decades.

Most recently, Mike served as Secretary to Cabinet and Deputy Minister of the Executive and Indigenous Affairs in the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).  In this role, Mike led the GNWT’s public service and was a key advisor to the Premier of the Northwest Territories and Ministers.  Prior to this, Mike served in other senior roles in the GNWT including as Deputy Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs and Deputy Minister of Public Works.  He also served from 2016-2019 as Vice Chair of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.

Across these roles, Mike was involved in all of the most consequential policy, investment and priority-setting decisions taken by the GNWT as they related to resource development and mining, transportation and supply chains, critical infrastructure, telecommunications and digital connectivity and defence and security.  He played a central role in turning ambitious plans into action and was a trusted advisor to many.  Through the course of his career in the GNWT, he also developed deep relationships across all three territorial governments, Indigenous governments, industry and civil society.

“Global is very fortunate to have someone of Mike’s calibre and expertise join as our first team member based in Canada’s North.  Given political, economic and security issues that are front and centre for all governments in Canada at the moment, Mike’s advice and his understanding of how things truly work in the North will be invaluable to our clients” said Randy Pettipas, CEO of Global Public Affairs.

“I’m excited to join Global Public Affairs and bring my experience in advancing policy and projects in Canada’s North to a firm with a strong national platform and an exceptional team.  Canada’s North is entering a pivotal period, and I look forward to helping clients navigate an increasingly complex policy environment, build constructive relationships and turn opportunities into results” said Mike Aumond.
